COLUMBUS, Ind. (Jan. 16, 2017) – Toyota Industrial Equipment, the number one forklift brand in North America, opened a new fitness and wellness facility at its North American corporate headquarters in Columbus, Indiana on Wednesday. The facility, named T+Rex, which is short for Toyota Recreational Complex, is open to Toyota associates and their families. T+Rex includes a fitness center as well as dedicated space for Toyota’s existing medical center.
The T+Rex fitness center features basketball courts, locker rooms, a yoga room, physical therapy room, free weights, workout machines, an indoor running track, group workout classes and more. The facility has a fun room complete with pool table, ping-pong table, shuffleboard table, multiple TVs and a video game console. The fitness center at T+Rex is managed by wellness company Optum.
T+Rex also features dedicated space specifically designed for use as a medical center, which features exam rooms, family exam rooms and a comprehensive pharmacy. The medical center is open during the week from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Toyota has partnered with Cerner to manage the medical, wellness and pharmacy services.
“Our associates are the reason for our success and they are the heart of our company – and we want them to be healthy, happy and fit,” said Brett Wood, President and CEO of Toyota Material Handling North America. “Given the proven benefits of supporting and encouraging associates to be healthy and fit, we decided to build our own fitness facility and expand the medical center right here on the Toyota campus.” Toyota associates are also responsible for the T+Rex name, having participated in a company-wide naming contest last year.
Toyota celebrated with a ribbon cutting and open house last week, which included several dignitaries from Toyota and the Columbus area, including mayor of Columbus, James Lienhoop. The fitness facility will be open to associates and their families 24 hours a day and the medical center will be open six days a week.
Toyota also announced the T+Rex Fitness Challenge, an eight week competition for associates that will start next month and will run for eight weeks. The challenge will encourage associates to earn points based on weekly activities, recognizing the top three point producers at an event in May, celebrating 50 years of selling forklifts in North America.
